RE and Assemblies

All children are taught Religious Education and an Act of Worshiplighting a candle takes place every day.  Our RE is broadly based and children are encouraged to develop cultural awareness and to tolerate the beliefs of others to enable them to become active and knowledgeable citizens in the multi-cultural world in which we live.  Units of work cover a variety of religions such as Judaism, Islam and Sikhism.  Assemblies are mainly based on the Christian traditions.

We celebrate cultural diversity through assemblies, RE units of work and visits by people from outside school.  In the past we have had visits from an Indian Storyteller and an African drumming group.

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from RE and/or assemblies if their own religious beliefs do not coincide with those of the school.  However, we should point out that it would be a parent’s responsibility to supervise their child during these withdrawal sessions.
