Keeping Parents Informed

Letters to Parents
There is a weekly family newsletter which is sent home every Friday.  Please ask your child for the newsletter - it will keep you informed about anything which you may need to know.letter and envelope

Your child may also bring home letters from their teacher about specific things to do with their own class, such as trips.  These will be mentioned in the newsletter to alert you that a letter is coming home.

Starting School
New parents will have the opportunity to visit our Nursery with their child during the Summer Term before their child starts in September.  With your permission, Nursery staff will arrange home visits to build up a picture of what your child likes to do and those things he or she is good at.  This will help staff to provide a suitable start for each individual child.  Reception children who did not attend Nursery will also be offered this invitation.  Children starting at other times and in other year groups during the year will be inducted into school with the support of the class teacher.

For detailed information on Admission Arrangements, please see the full school Admissions Policy – a copy of which can be obtained from the school office.

Parent/Teacher Consultations
During the school year, the school invites parents to visit on three occasions to formally discuss their child’s progress.

The first Parents’ Evening occurs early in the Autumn Term and this is an opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss how the children have settled into their new class and how parents can support children in reaching their targets for the year.

An Academic Review Day is held at the end of the Spring Term and this is an opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss points concerning progress and planning for the future.

The third opportunity is at the end of the Summer Term and this offers an opportunity to look at children’s overall progress and the school report provides a focus for discussion.  This report will be sent to you a week before Parents’ Evening.  It will report on all subject areas and will indicate National Curriculum levels where appropriate.

Parents are encouraged to visit the school on these formal occasions but you are welcome at any time to discuss with the teacher, Deputy Head Teacher or Headteacher matters which you feel are important.

Parents' Association
We have an active and busy Parents’ Association, called Friends of Rough Hay, which holds regular meetings at the school.  All parents are welcome to join the PA committee to help organise events such as the termly discos and the annual Christmas Fair.  Mrs Dawn Williams, one of its members, can be contacted via the school office.
