Gifted and Talented provision

At Rough Hay our aim is to provide a good quality education to all pupils and to meet the needs of children across a range of abilities.  As part of the Excellence in Cities Initiative, Rough Hay School has a responsible person who coordinates the Gifted and Talented register and organises the programme for Gifted and Talented activities through the cluster.   A wide range of activities across the whole curriculum are covered during the year e.g. athletics, science, maths, dance, music etc.

The school has a register of pupils who have been identified asmulti-talented Gifted or Talented in a particular area of the curriculum.  This is compiled by pupils who achieve highly being identified by staff, early in Key Stage One, and provision is then made for these children throughout their time spent in school.  This ranges from providing more challenging work in everyday lessons to inclusion in master classes and Children’s University courses, as the children progress to the final years of Key Stage Two.

The school has established a close link with Darlaston Community School, who in turn have provided enrichment and extension classes for pupils in Years 5 and 6 in core areas such as Maths and Science.  Children also visit St Thomas More School for Maths Challenge activities after school.

The school is shortly to become an affiliate of the University of the First Age, which again will provide enrichment activities across the curriculum.
