Starting the project
In November 1998 we received a letter inviting us to make a bid to join a pilot scheme as part of SRB4 "Learning Environments" theme.
Funding had been secured for projects which seek to "raise educational aspirations and achievements among Young People" in the Darlaston area.
Additional funding was offered from Walsall Council's Environmental Improvements Capital Programme.
We duly made a successful bid and with the help of Groundwork Black Country's School's Programme Co-ordinator Rob Bounds we embarked upon what came to be known in school as the Eco-Schools Project. This was a Green IT project to identify and implement modest school grounds improvements.
Timetable
January 1999 Set up an environmental committee in school comprising of pupils, parents, teachers and governors.
February 1999 Conduct an environmental review of the school grounds. Produce an Action Plan consisting of specific and achievable targets with a proposed timetable of completion events.
March 1999 Explore the possibility of accreditation under the Tidy Britain Group Eco-Schools award scheme. Hold one action event working on activities relating to environmental awareness in school.
April 1999 Monitor and evaluate the project.
